Her strength is in her ability to surprise, astonish and stupefy the listener.

If you think the following description of Renata Leuffen is overlong or exaggerated – Singer-songwriter, Writer, Journalist, Poet, Educator, Teacher, Motivator, Philanthropist, Philosopher, Social Innovator, Reformer, Public Protest Artist, Adventurer, Prophet, Preacher, and CEO – then you should take the time to read her life story! In fact her life’s tale is so intriguing – at times heartbreaking and at others filled with a compelling self-empowerment attitude – that Renata is seriously considering turning it into a movie and TV show. That’s if she finds the time.

renata-leuffen-400Renata is currently setting up some new business ventures during 2014 and 2015, an online bikini and swimwear shop, an online information website and shop dedicated to people who want to live long and strong, an online information website and shop for women who want to enhance their beauty, the Danny Leuffen Foundation for Children, a healthy eating restaurant chain and a movie production business. You can check her personal website at www.renataleuffen.com to find out exactly when these websites and businesses will be up and running.

Renata Leuffen is also the Co-Founder of the London Youth Express works to liberate and empower the youth in London. Renata’s vision is of a youth committed to justice, peace and non-violence and that takes responsibility and makes every city humane and safe. The website for the London Youth Express is www.londonyouthexpress.co.uk

I could write pages and pages of the trials and tribulations that Renata Leuffen has endured throughout her lifetime, from being stripped of her parental rights and ostracized by her country of birth for wanting to give her child home schooling, instead of the enforced form of compulsory school attendance in Germany. She has fought her way through the German Supreme Courts and even took the Federal Republic of Germany before the European Commission on Human Rights (now the European Court for Human Rights). In the end her application was rejected and she lost everything, “except my values, my son and my life,” she says.

In June 2011 Renata also lost her son, Danny, at the age of 27, for whom she had fought a ferocious battle for the ‘freedom of choice’. Recently Renata has been putting the broken pieces of her life together to create a better future and to make life easier, more humane, just and fair for herself, and many others, and to bring healing, restoration and freedom to people. She says, “I am a woman from the street, literally. I had thirty German cents in my pocket when I arrived with Danny in London in 1992, homeless and persecuted. I had nothing and I did not die. I am alive and what this means is, that I have not been defeated.”

One of the vehicles Renata Leuffen uses to spread her positive attitude is music, something she only discovered very recently. Uncannily, Renata has so far published 7 Albums: “I Grow Love”, “It Is Time To Make Love”, “Happy That You Love Me Too Much” and “Our Love Is Sacred”, “In Circles”, “You Are My Fairy Tale Prince” and “We Are The New Generation”, which can be found on Amazon and iTunes. All her songs are also available as music videos on the Renata Leuffen Corporation Video Channel on YouTube.

Nothing about Renata Leuffen is ordinary, banal, conventional, orthodox or conformist. These are sentiments she has strongly opposed and fought against, her entire life; resulting in convictions that have caused her to live in exile since 1992. Therefore it was clear to me, before I even heard one single note of music, that Renata’s offerings would be different…very different!

My ears fell on her latest album, “You Are My Fairy Tale Prince”. And ‘different’, ‘alternative’ or ‘experimental’ does not even come close to where Renata Leuffen’s supernatural, musical soul is wandering in. Her strength is in her ability to surprise, astonish and stupefy the listener with interpretations that extend way outside the realms of conventional music composition.

When it comes to musical arrangements, forget about formal intonation, keys, scales and rhythms. Renata breaks all the rules and seems to have a joyously good time doing so, as she bathes her songs in themes of love, princes and queens. If you threw Bjork, Kate Bush and Janis Jopin into a melting pot, the resulting amalgamation would vaguely resemble the alternative vocal style of Renata Leuffen.

Production-wise, across the 10-tracks that make up “You Are My Fairy Tale Prince”, Renata displays the same anti-conformist attitude. Largely foregoing the restricting values associated with volumes, mixing levels and mastering, as her voice dances in and out, and around the music.

From the title track to “I Have Fallen In Love”, “I am The Apple Of Your Eye” and  “We Lie In Bed”, to “I Feel Like A Queen” and “The Witches Tried To Kill me Many Times”, expect to be astounded by the diversity of what Renata is doing.

You will have to reset your aural aesthetics and rethink your musicological rationalism to even begin to understand the musical tangent Renata Leuffen has chosen to express herself. She is no ordinary woman, neither is her tortuous life story. Conformity is and has always been the furthermost sentiment from her mind. And to connect with Renata Leuffen’s world, it needs to be furthermost in your mind too!
