Sloppy Joe’s: “Eight Reasons To Rock” – 8 raucous and rocking songs!
Inspired by legendary bands such as KISS, Volbeat, Maiden and AC/DC the trio of Sloppy Joe’s features Jesse Garon(Lead vocals, Guitar), Johnny Angel (Bass, Vocals) and Pätzy Dävey (Drums, Vocals) who provide blistering guitar riffs, thumping bass lines and pounding drums. Their EP “Eight Reasons To Rock” goes from catchy power-pop and punk songs like “Right Decision” to hard rock ones such as “Lonesome No.1”, and even has a rockabilly-themed cover song on it, in the shape of the reworked “Diana” a tune first made famous by writer and singer Paul Anka in 1957.
Sloppy Joe’s also do a thrilling version of “Without You” which starts off fairly lightly until the chugging overdriven guitar riffs drive the chorus into rock’s seventh heaven. Most will remember the Mariah Carey version of the song released at the beginning of the nineties, but it is actually an all-time classic first released in 1971 by singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson. This clearly demonstrates that Sloppy Joe’s is not just a creative rock band, able to kick up a head-banging fuss, but an extremely confident one, able, and willing, to make any song ‘their own’.
And just in case you think they’re all about adrenalin pumping ‘loudness’, think again, as you listen to the soft and gentle acoustic EP closer, “Right Decision”, which is another version of the same song that appears earlier on in the track list. This again shows that Sloppy Joe’s is not afraid to challenge, not only covers, but their own songs, with different arrangements.
“Eight Reasons To Rock” goes straight to the core and its title simply alludes to the 8 raucous and rocking songs contained on the EP. You can put the proverbial needle down on any track in this collection and you will be stunned by the bone crushing riffs, and the total slamming beats, together with the anthemic and melodic vocals which propel the soaring choruses.
But if you really want to bring the house down, let the ‘needle’ settle on Eat Sloppy Joe’s – in the tradition of those easy to follow blood-boiling AC/DC guitar riffs, the killer KISS sing-along choruses and a downright and dirty blues-infused vocal, this track will drive any rock n’ roll fan into a state of euphoric ecstasy.
This EP is a great example of Sloppy Joe’s musical diversity. You’ll love how they can do an old school sounding song and break into something heavy in the flip of a switch. All songs on this EP are very well written and arranged even better. The have great chord progressions, solid guitar solos, and tons of melody, as you will expect and demand from this genre, and is a definite must have for any rock n’ roll music library.
These dudes from draw from a variety of influences, as they straddle and blend the lines of genre demarcation, one sub-genre flows from another, and mingles here and there, until you don’t even notice the difference anymore. There is absolutely no sonic boredom to be found on “Eight Reasons To Rock”!
