Here to brighten up the day of all the folk lovers is Vermin & the Beachrat with their new single I Know Everything About you—a high-energy, rustic and boisterous folk-country rock number that is equal parts nostalgic, equal parts sweet and a whole lot of the familiar gusto that has become a signature style of the artist.

Yet the subject matter of the song reveals a challenge for an old friend or lover, a knowing, tenacious grin that looms over all the extensive guitar riffs, the electric instrumental solos and a refrain that echoes into the airwaves with enough power to raise the roof off the existing acts in the genre.

Wear Tommy Jean Perfume, scent fills the whole room—an acute, descriptive statement that not only orients the song as part of a particular sentiment, that of conflicting resentment and nonchalance, but as part of a particular point in time. The words feel fresh, they’ve popped out of a moving picture, abound with specificity, feeling and heart. The winning combination of the mandolins, the eccentric banjos and the all-too-flexible use of the electric guitars positions the artist as the heir to the legacy Mumford and Sons have imprinted upon the musical canvass.

Here, Vermin & the Beachrat is not speaking to an audience, he has focused his attention on communicating with a woman mired in mystery and elegance, secrets and sex. She floats amidst the pauses in the song, the bluegrass rhythms, the ebbing and flowing of modern folk music.

At the end of the day, it is a memorable, vivacious piece of music that is undeniably going to make Vermin & the Beachrats stand above the rest in terms of making folk music adaptable to the modern alternative rock and roll category. With a strong lyrical base that injects the song with a dose of poetry and emotion, Vermin & the Beachrat has put on yet another showcase of his versatility with instruments, his willingness to infuse his sound with as many tones and genres as possible and a steadfast mission to promote and amplify the meanings of folk music.
