Ivan Mihaljevic & Side Effects are an eclectic rock power trio from Zagreb Croatia. The band consists of Ivan Mihaljevic on guitar and vocals, Majkl Jagunic on bass and Alen Frljak on drums. They have released 2 albums so far – “Sandcastle” in 2008 and “Destination Unknown” in 2010, both of which received excellent reviews from the press. The latter was also selected as the album of the month in the March 2011 issue of the most popular European guitar magazine, ‘Guitar Techniques’.

The band has played many live many times, including shows supporting Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big, Racer X) and Richie Kotzen (Poison, Mr. Big) as well as headlining the guitar festival ‘Guitar Master in Zagreb’. The band has also appeared and played on numerous TV and radio shows (Sala Prove on Rock TV, Garaza on HRT 2, Dobro jutro on HRT 1, Metal Eye on Z1 TV, Rock block on radio KL Eurodom, Glas Hrvatske on radio HR3 and many more…).

Ivan Mihaljevic & Side Effects were also recently featured on the cover of ‘Indonesian Music Live’ magazine.

The band’s track record clearly demonstrate their ability to mix it with the best, rock has to offer. The trio are a tight, no-nonsense powerhouse unit, with Ivan Mihaljevic being a devastatingly ferocious lead guitarist. His playing technique, sound timbre and creative expression during riffs and shreds, comfortably puts him amongst rock-guitar’s elite players. But Ivan’s amazing talent doesn’t stop there, he has a superb vocal range which is well-suited to his genre of music.

As for the rest of the group, Alen Frljak on drums, drives a rock-solid backbeat and is a perfect timekeeper for bassist Majkl Jagunic, whose thunderous bassline roots are always clean and precise, allowing Ivan to design his guitar magic on top of powerfully neat and tidy musical rhythms.

Apart from being a virtuoso rock guitarist, Ivan Mihaljevic is also a music producer and enjoys singing and acting in musical theater. In 2005 at the Wacken Open Air festival, he played with the band ‘Hard Time’ as an opening act for Scorpions, The Cult and Tito & Tarantula and has already toured Europe twice.

A highlight for Ivan’s career, occurred in November 2008 when he played as a guest with the inventor of the electric guitar – Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club on Times Square, New York.

Ivan, who also produced instructional guitar videos for guitarmasterclass.net and mixer.hr., endorses and exclusively uses Ernie Ball Music Man guitars and ENGL amps .

Side Effects colleague, Alen Frljak teaches drums at the Modern Rock Institute in Zagreb and works as a session drummer. He has also played with the band Inciter as an opening act for Lamb of God and Parkway Drive.

The third Side Effects member Majkl Jagunic, also plays with Ivan in the band ‘Hard Time’, and that’s how they initially met. Majkl also played bass in the Croatian Idol (Hrvatska Trazi Zvijezdu) backing band, on the 2011 Tour of the TV show.
