Funky Dope Maneuvers is the latest eleven-track mixtape by the Justuce Street Poets (pronounced Just-Us). JSP are a Pittsburgh crew made up of Cory Eaux, Kniseburgh, Ceno, LuckyFace Dollars, and Slim from Hater Magnet.

I listen to a lot of music. Some albums get stale after 2 listens, and then they sit in your collection forever. But “Funky Dope Maneuvers” is icy-fresh every time you drop it into your player. It’s everything hip-hop should be: raw beats, simple hooks, and evocative, organic samples intertwined with four rappers’ unique styles, all of which come together to build an assault on the body and mind.

It’s not often that you can pick up an album which is 100% raw talent. There’s not one bad verse, one weak link to be found here. The production is also top-notch. Pulling in funky and trippy piano melodies with strings, big choruses and dope beats.

The tracks on this mixtape are ordered in such a way that one song segues naturally into the next, giving the listener the sensation that they have gone a long way towards understanding true hip hop. Standout tracks for me, include, “Over Achiever”, “Mary Jane’s Flowers”, “Puff Puff Puff Pass”, “Fire”, “Ganja Man”, “Weedgreenbudnugsbomnolbooda” and “I’m Sooo Hiiiiiigh”.

Every track on Funky Dope Maneuvers has a lot of replay value. This superior mixtape is truly worthy of every hip hop collection.

More About  the Justuce Street Poets:

As a veteran group from the Pittsburgh, PA underground hip-hop scene, the Justuce Street Poets (pronounced Just-Us) are an electric and eclectic mix of emcees and personalities. The way that they blend the styles and looks of a biker/born hustler, a smooth yet aggressive ladies/business man, add in a model/PR director/Hype man, a passionate hip-hop fundamentalist, with a slightly zany often comical lyricist, is quite a marvel to behold.

First, we have mastermind/engine driving the mechanism, the relentless Cory Eaux. A ladies man with a keen business sense and a non-stop motor, he truly is the backbone and brains behind the operation. His varying styles perfectly merge and amalgamate the different personalities and sensibilities to create an artistic explosion in fashion, culture and music helping form the group.

The latest addition to the seemingly odd grouping of individuals that is the J.S.P., Kniseburgh. With his silky smooth delivery and poignant often witty lyrics he is the perfect complement musically and personality wise. Ceno, the aforementioned biker, is definitely the muscle behind the machine and the mic. Ceno is always on the grind, so of course when on the mic you can hear the hustle ooze out of the speaker.

You combine that with the silly antics of a slightly off his rocker lyricist LuckyFace Dollars, and let the confusion begin. While providing a jolly twist to the music, still he retains the lyrical skill and adaptability to maintain a certain level of cohesiveness.

Add Christopher “Slim”O’Domes to the mix and the aesthetics are accounted for. As PR director for HaterMagnet Media, he is the primary contact for any new ventures they take on. When it comes to his role within Justuce he has one goal, get it hyped.
