Lenny Gerard is a driven, charismatic and passionate artist with a unique feel. Hailing from New York City, he managed to seize the town’s eclectic music scene. His sound showcases a lot of talent and versatility: Lenny embodies the energy and groove of rap music, yet he is able to create memorable hooks and catchy tracks that are appealing and easy to relate to for a wider audience!
He is currently working on a mixtape that bridges the gaps in between pop and dance music, influenced by artists such as Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and John Legend, just to name a few.
His full-length album “City Feet” which is currently available worldwide starts with “Old Enough For Love” – a wonderful song – great beat, strong vocals with a creatively distorted sound added in for extra ‘overdrive power’. As I listen to the album, I’m impressed how different each song is.
From my personal favourites like “I’ll Rescue You With My Words”, “Cyberspace”, “Music Man”, “Heart Tuned In”, “Playing Your Game” to “Harmony”, the songs are a blissful mixture of intense ballads and infectious upbeat numbers with a sprinkling of eclectic sounds in between.
Gerard’s voice is gritty, with a nice range and a silky soulful texture. He does not muffle his lyrics, so you can understand everything he says, and you’ll want to understand what he is saying! His songs are more than cute hooks with some meaty underlying themes.
I don’t think it’s any secret that mainstream music today is on a downward spiral. So I was pleasantly surprised by the lyrical and musical leaps that this album takes, with a new, young artist on his debut.
Lenny Gerard has great music, great variety and great style. His music also has a distinctive groove to match. Pressed to find a flaw, I would say that if singer-songwriter Gerard , really wishes to move to the next level, closer to that group which contains his peers and influences, I would suggest a professional production ‘upgrade’. Or rather to seek out a talented producer who is able to fleece out a sound that will exult Gerard’s song-writing and voice to the hilt.
Gerard would certainly benefit from a bigger, more plush and hard-hitting musical backdrop to support his ‘true-grit’ attitude and vocals. In the meantime he is walking the right path, on his way to seeking success!
