Ruby was born in the Bronx borough (New York City). Her mother, worried about heavy gang activity and increasing violent crime rates, decided to send Ruby to her grandparents in Carolina, PR., so she could grow up far away from the dangerous environment, at the time. It was there that Ruby first got involved with music, quickly learning to speak Spanish, singing along to ballads and old tunes, and also refining her singing technique, before eventually moving back to the big city with her mom during her pre-teen years.

Ruby joined a youth chorus group sponsored by the New York City Housing Authority which turned out to be an incredibly smart move for the budding singer, because it was within that early, fundamental experience that she started to shape up her career, not only as a well-rounded song-writer, but as a fully-formed and exciting entertainer. Other artists she connected with, such as successful musicians Lil Eddie Serrano (Sony ATV) and Claude Kelly, are also responsible for a big contribution to Ruby’s newly found musical identity.

Her first professional experience in the music business began as the voice of “Se signet,” anthem of the internationally acclaimed TV cartoon series named “Bratz,” which influenced a generation of kids. Along the lines of the success of the cartoon, the soundtrack album, featuring Ruby, went on to become “Rock Angelz”, one of the highest selling cartoon albums internationally to date.

After the successful experience with the Bratz franchise, Ruby set out to finally show her true musical identity to the world. The very first taste of Ruby was her debut mixtape, aptly titled “Remix Queen,” a name that has been very often associated with the singer herself, because of her habit to create personal and intriguing versions of #1 radio hits, tweaking the songs with her own lyrics. Ruby enjoyed the support of many Djs, such as DJ Kurupt, Dj Clue and Dj Trigger and collaborated with top selling world-class producers such as DJ Ray Roc, Catalyst, Troy Oliver, Echo and Malay.

Currently, Ruby is performing live gigs throughout New York City, promoting her first ever full length release, the album “Entermission,” to be released through Elique Music Group and has just dropped her first single, “Runway,” off the album.

If the single is anything to go by, then we can assume that Ruby did not rush into the studio trying to catch lightning in a bottle and call it an album, but crafted what is sure to be a top release. “Runway,” manages to establish its groove, straight off from the first bars. The track seems to be perfectly in line with Ruby’s soft, sexy and breathy vocal, which is underlined by a smooth, effective production.

At the junction of many different musical infusions, as she moves between Pop, Dance and R&B, Ruby combines catchy choruses and credible lyrics with a personal and eclectic touch. All in all, this new attempt, her best yet, is a real must have single for all fans, and a great introduction to the talents of this artist, for everyone else.  As “Runway” takes Ruby’s smooth contemporary style to another level.

Quite unlike Alicia Keys or Macy Gray, who jump back in time with classic soul elements, Ruby brings forth the electronic-laced sounds of modern R&B with style and grace. If every indie artist would put this kind of effort into their work, then it would probably be worth-listening to.

Ruby has proved in her remixes that she’s not scared to experiment with sounds, as you can hear in the many different styles throughout her music. Plus her voice is so pure and crystal clear, and always seems to capture the emotion of a song in the sweetest way. “Runway” is no exception to the rule, showing maturity and promise, which will continue to spellbind Ruby fans.
