High Standards are a group of 4 musicians, who were all born and raised in Suffolk in a town called Ipswich. Some of them were childhood friends, and all attended the same High School where they first started making music and sharing it with their school friends. From school field rap battles to classroom rap sessions, the passion was always there and they wanted to break new ground for UK musicians.
They chose to form the group High Standards on a regular day in the studio. The name popped out of nowhere, it stuck and they loved it. The group consists of songwriter/producers, Life White, BiiG, Sophie and A.T Friso’.
“Thinking About You” is a tour de force. Minimalist, yet soulful, simple yet complex. Life White & Big showcase modern R&B with just a touch of elegant Europop-crossover, that characterizes this remix so beautifully. Shifting between rap, then chest and high head voices, like pros, they make “Thinking About You” even more of a vocal masterpiece, than Frank Ocean had originally done. Plus add the power of Frank’s lyrics upon the refrain and the magic is made: “…Or do you not think so far ahead / because I been thinking about forever…”
The song is a creative mix, confirming that High Standands are a force to be reckoned with. They have slipped in elements of traditional R&B, pop, rap and a touch of Europop, into 3 minutes and nineteen seconds of music. All framed inside a black & white video featuring silhouettes, shadows and pure white light, allowing you to totally concentrate on the power of the music.
Like undisputed R&B king, R.Kelly and recently Frank Ocean himself, High Standards are wide and deep, making thoughtful, finely crafted music that moves you inside and out. And it just plain sounds good.
Not bad for a bunch of guys, born and raised in Suffolk!
