“Jang” is a project by music artist Nick Stanifer from Sacramento, CA and that’s already a guarantee of extremely free spirited and eventful music. Jang have just released a double video featuring the songs, “Pure Stuff” and “Let’s Do It In The Rainforest,” both off the new Jang album entitled “Songs Of The Volcano Serpent.”

What’s that you say? You want party music. You wanna dance like a monk-funk mowgli, but you don’t want to be seen to be a trend-hound, you don’t want to leap aboard the rap, house and techno wagon that’s doing the rounds. Well there’s always this, you can’t go wrong with this. It’s a joyous musical rump from Jang.

This could whip up a mother thumpin’ rumpus in a mausoleum. It’s new wave alternative gospel party-rock and it’s fearsomely hip shaking. Yeah, this is the one. It will make your ears all prickly. Wow I mean look at these songs. “Let’s Do It In The Rainforest,” is a kind of b-movie erotica, exotica, hypno-rhythmic monster-rumble in the jungle, if you follow me. There’s your perfect party song right there.

Quite frankly, even “Pure Stuff”, might become your favourite. It hits this incredible saxophone groove that will send shivers up and down your spine, while the rhythm and backbeat kicks the crap out of your booty. Of course, if you listen to the lyrics you will find the songs somewhat bizarre, but that is only half the fun. Nobody is more manic than Jang, and this double video – produced with the help of Temple Randolph from San Francisco, CA – proves the truth of that statement, from view one.

For all its weirdness, this is music designed to get you on your feet, and on draggy days when you don’t quite feel up to any task, drop this into the sound system and dance until you do it. Jang’s music seems to take off on pop culture. With its retro-rhythms, electronic pings, twangy guitars and truly off the wall lyrics, the style puts you on quick notice: it will be quite unlike anything you’ve heard in a while.

In the performing arts, originality is the key, and Jang has that in spades. The music defies categorization, while the strange arrangements, retro sound mixes and energy displayed on this album is pretty unique.

You owe “Songs Of The Volcano Serpent” to yourself.  Put it on, turn up the volume and make the neighbours roll their eyes and wonder what the heck you’re doing!
