Risa Binder (bine-der), a Columbia, Maryland native, knew early on that she wanted to be a singer-songwriter. To realize her dream, Risa moved to New York by way of Nashville. Once in New York, Risa jumped from Nashville to Los Angeles, co-writing songs and performing up and down the east coast with her 7 piece band. Risa’s songs can be heard on ABC, The Lifetime Channel, General Hospital, Cougartown etc.
If you’re not already familiar with Risa Binder, then the song “Nashville”, is the perfect place to start, before moving back to her album Paper Heart, where Risa has a wide variety of pop/country sounds spread of 10 wholesome tracks.
Risa is somewhat of a chameleon in terms of musical style. She easily shifts from an up-tempo classic country romp, to mid-tempo modern pop, to a slow ballad without sounding strained or awkward. My favorite tracks on the Paper Heart album are “Just Like That”, “Could Be Love”, “Falling Apart”, “Living For This” and the stellar “All The While”.
The single “Nashville” should be a track off Risa’s upcoming album of the same name, of which we also heard a sneak preview of another song, titled “Burning Down the Dark”. A free copy of “Nashville” can be downloaded at Risa Binder’s Facebook page HERE
On the evidence of what I’ve heard; it amazes me that Risa Binder is not considered higher on the rungs of the female country-pop music ladder. She can deliver a song as good as the best in business, and she also is a solid topline songwriter. In fact, she shares co-writing duties in almost all of her songs.
Risa Binder is that rarest of performers: Not only does she improve with each succeeding release, but she’s one of the few artists who can so effortlessly appeal to contemporary pop-country fans without alienating traditionalists.
I’m almost certain that the new album should be well worth the wait, and that it will be wonderful to see the maturity Risa has acquired since her debut album in 2011. She has such a beautiful voice and she has a quality that seems to make you feel exactly what she is singing about.
Her perfect blend of traditional country values and modern style is very capable of touching a place in your heart every time you listen to her music.
