The unique music project New Laconia continues to expand its creative universe, exploring various aspects of pop culture and modern society.
Founded by Alex Syniakov, the formation proves that conceptual music and bold creative ideas can be made accessible to a wider audience. This makes the project truly unique — not only in the Ukrainian market but also internationally.
New Laconia is working on materializing its own artistic world, built on a wide spectrum of musical tastes — from video games and film soundtracks to progressive rock, fantasy, and sci-fi literature.
“I’ve always wanted to blend these elements into a kind of creative mix. In this project, we aim to create diverse music that carries a nostalgic feel — for childhood, old movies, and music from the past — while still sounding modern. It’s like progressive rock, but more listener-friendly — without overloading your neurons,” says Alex Syniakov, founder of New Laconia.
The project’s first two singles introduced audiences to the band’s musical universe and quickly became notable entries in the world of alternative music.
The debut track, “Stardust Bear Bazaar,” tells the story of a cosmic pub by the same name, its residents, and random visitors. The main character is Bear, the pub’s owner, who’s trapped in a time loop and possesses portals to other worlds. Due to the manipulations of the villain Time, the portals have become time machines — bringing chaos.
The band’s universe expanded with “The Fates”, a track dedicated to the three Moirai from ancient Greek mythology: Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.
The new single, “Coming Home,” which will also appear on the debut full-length album, touches on an incredibly important and painful topic — it’s dedicated to those who may never return home. At the same time, it’s a song about new life, about those who have already found or built a new home.
An instrumental track, “Coming Home” reveals the inner world and deep emotions of a person who realizes that change is inevitable, tries to endure it, and seeks new meaning.
Paradoxically, New Laconia’s team has crafted a piece on a tragic subject that still makes you want to relax — or even dance. The choice to leave out lyrics was deliberate: no words can fully express the emotional spectrum of someone who has lost their home forever.
“Coming Home tells the story of a Captain returning from a war his side has lost. Defeated and broken, he sets out across the vast cosmos, trying to escape the oppression of the victors and rediscover a reason to live. His journey takes him through stars, planets, and forgotten worlds. Eventually, fate leads him to a mysterious portal that transports him to Stardust — a cozy pub at the edge of the universe, home to fellow wanderers. There, he begins a new chapter of his life,” says Alex Syniakov.
This track holds special meaning for the creator of New Laconia — it was the very first piece ever recorded under this name. It marks the true beginning of the team’s creative path, even though it’s only being released now.
“Coming Home” is the project’s most emotional and autobiographical work so far. While composing it, Alex aimed to capture the feeling of returning home — the hope that home still exists somewhere and that it will be better there.
“Coming Home” is a tribute to those who will never return. But it’s also a song about moving forward, finding meaning again, and building a new home — for yourself and those you love.
