Originally from California, the Dallas (TX) based artist RealTalk the Black Boy King covers the complexities experienced in areas like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Phoenix, while seeks to shed light on the truth of life in America. World travelled and a true descendant of ancient royalty, RealTalk has unleashed his latest, epic 12 song project, entitled “True”. For those familiar with his previous work, ‘CURSES’ and ‘The Time Machine’, the new album, currently available for purchase on all platforms, is considered a huge step up for the Dallas artist. Though his projects have all been critical successes, his latest shows that he can keep up — no, he outmatches — the majority of his peers. It proves his status as one of the best in the underground game.
If you haven’t heard of RealTalk the Black Boy King, it’s really not your fault. That is how the mainstream industry works – from labels, to radio stations and news media. They don’t provide support, they don’t advertise, and they will interfere with creative processes. Being independent however affords artists to move ahead without the prescribed politics.
The desire to prove himself and have people listen to his music has fueled RealTalk passion. This hunger, in return, has helped him create a body of work that will be remembered as a defining point in his career. His latest album has all the makings of a classic.
Packed with jams that will turn your speakers into absolute monsters, RealTalk makes sure the lyrical content and the consciousness on “True”, remains up to par all the way through. These elements come together to deliver the type of music you can listen to in any situation and any mood. You’re guaranteed to find a track here, to uplift and inspire you.
The album starts with a bang. “Coming For Me” ft. Valentine features rapid-fire braggadocio verses and soaring choruses, which will wake up your sound system, making the ground shake with its powerful rumble. After being poised on the first track, RealTalk steps up his game on the throwback second track “Droppin’ Em” ft. Synesthetic Nation. “Gun on Me” follows in all its glory as RealTalk drops some explosive rhymes on the topic.
The music transition to something more mellow and soulful on “Destination” showcases RealTalk’s lyrical skills, as he touches on relatable subject matter with beautifully constructed verses. The excellent instrumental is accompanied by my all-time favorite hook songstress, Breana Marin, each adding up to the overall feel of one of the catchiest songs on the album.
The energy is absolutely infectious on “Nothing 2 Something”, while we can clearly hear where RealTalk is going with “Sound Right (Donald Trump)”, while he points his finger at Kanye too.
There is also a strong spiritual aura running through the entire album, which RealTalk brings to the fore on “Ride Thru Jerusalem”. Expectedly, RealTalk sounds at home spitting confidently over slow-burning to mid-tempo soulful backdrops, which he does perfectly on “Effects” and “Warn ‘Em”. Riding on vibe and cinematic production, “Bitter” follows in all its glory.
The funky piano-driven “Proof” ft. Constantine and Curt Flo, is sheer excellence if you’re looking for a soulful groove and throbbing basslines. On the album closer “Too Long”, RealTalk delivers some more buttery smooth rhymes that pack a real punch. His game here is top-notch.
“True” is a phenomenal album that showcases an artist at the top of his game. In hip-hop, you usually have two schools of thought: those who listen to whatever mumble rapper is trending, and those who value the craftsmanship and skill the art of rap takes.
If you fall in the second category, this is a project you can’t miss. The combination of excellent production, top-notch lyrics and relatable content makes this ambitious project a must-listen. If you haven’t heard of RealTalk the Black Boy King yet, go fix that right now!
