Erik Odsell is a Swedish songwriter and recording artist. As a small child there were two ways to always make Erik calm. One way was to put him in a car and go for a drive, the other was to put him in a baby chair in front of his parents old grand piano while his father was playing. At the age of 7 Erik started playing the piano and began singing in a well-reputed boys’ choir in Sweden. By the age of 13 he already started playing in his first band.
On the 23rd of October Erik Odsell’s debut album about life, love, death and the importance of pursuing dreams – “Searching For Lost Boys Island”, was released. Full of powerful, superb songs which are cleverly orchestrated, the biggest advantage is that they show off Erik’s amazing voice. It is a special gift for those listeners of contemporary music who appreciate fine songwriting, emotional vocals, and virtuoso musical instrument performances.
Erik Odsell is a masterful lyricist, and he only gets better and better. His writing and sparkling musicianship are getting noticed more and more by critics, and rightfully so. His voice is at times soft and haunting and at others rough, ragged and downright fantastic. Better than most everyone else on pop radio/adult contemporary today. It’s also a testament to his talent that not only can he write powerful and wonderful pop, but he can do so while clinging to the times, fads, and goes above and beyond genres and generations. Well balanced with rockers, mid-tempo pop songs, and breathtaking ballads, no musical stone goes unturned. Everyone will find a track to enjoy on “Searching For Lost Boys Island”.
Erik is such an amazing and underrated songwriter and producer. It’s no wonder so many other artists have also looked to him for songs. I just hope that this album gets the airplay it deserves. Every song is a standout. Sing along type songs with great hooks and rich, thick production make this a must for fans of strong melody and deep meaning. There are so many good songs I don’t know where to start with my favorites. “Waiting For The Snowfall” is amazing. “Finally,” “Come What May,” “As Long As I’m With You ft. Sacha Dupont,” “Searching For The Lost Boys Island,” and “Some Might Say,” are some of my early favorites. But there isn’t a bad song on this album. They are all outstanding.
With Erik Odsell’s vocals on point and the lush power pop soundscapes set up just right, these songs fly and soar into your memory. The voice, the words and music touches your heart and soul. Throughout the album, Erik delivers spellbinding performances, with haunting melodies that will give you shivers by the time he uses his falsetto. He is one of the few independent artists out there who is really dedicated in what he does professionally. While listening to these superbly arranged and produced songs, you get the undeniable sensation that Erik Odsell is particularly concerned with putting on the best performance possible for his audience. The result is – he succeeds marvelously, beyond all expectations!
If you have any interest whatsoever in Adult Contemporary music, look no further than “Searching For Lost Boys Island”!
